Biography
[edit]Markovics' mother worked as a clerk and his father was a bus driver. Markovics did not want to go into a professional career but wanted to become a stage actor, which his parents supported. However, he failed to pass the entry exam for the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar. He did not let this deter him from his dream and began performing at the Serapions Theater in Vienna. In , he started working with the Wiener Ensemble. In , he got his first part in the movie, "Hund und Katz" and in , he played the part of the innkeeper in Paul Harather's tragic-comedy road movie "Indien".

Roots and career
Karl Markovics, born in Vienna in , is one of the "character heads" of German-language cinema with his distinctive face. His career began in the s on stage at the Serapion Theatre and to this day Markovics appears regularly at the most important Viennese theatres.
Markovics took on his first film roles at the beginning of the s and subsequently appeared in numerous TV and theatre productions, including the Theater in der Josefstadt and the Wiener Volkstheater, where he also directed a play himself for the first time in with Eugène Ionescos "The Bald Singer".
Greatest successes
