    Markovics' mother worked as a clerk and his father was a bus driver. Markovics did not want to go into a professional career but wanted to become a stage actor, which his parents supported. However, he failed to pass the entry exam for the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar. He did not let this deter him from his dream and began performing at the Serapions Theater in Vienna. In , he started working with the Wiener Ensemble. In , he got his first part in the movie, "Hund und Katz" and in , he played the part of the innkeeper in Paul Harather's tragic-comedy road movie "Indien".

    Karl Markovics, born in Vienna in , is one of the "character heads" of German-language cinema with his distinctive face. His career began in the s on stage at the Serapion Theatre and to this day Markovics appears regularly at the most important Viennese theatres.

    Markovics took on his first film roles at the beginning of the s and subsequently appeared in numerous TV and theatre productions, including the Theater in der Josefstadt and the Wiener Volkstheater, where he also directed a play himself for the first time in with Eugène Ionesco&#;s "The Bald Singer".

    Karl Markovics was an actor who had a successful Hollywood career. Markovics kickstarted his acting career in various films such as "Drei Herren" () with Karl Merkatz, the comedy "Late Show" () with Thomas Gottschalk and "Geboren in Absurdistan" ().
