    Manolete, also known as The Passion Within in the United Kingdom, Blood and Passion in Canada, and A Matador's Mistress in the United States,[2] is a biopic of bullfighterManuel Laureano Rodríguez Sánchez, better known as "Manolete". The film was written and directed by Menno Meyjes. This is the first film from HandMade Films since Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels ().

    The Menno Meyjes directed drama stars Adrien Brody as Spanish bullfighter Manolete, in a film that covers his late life love affair with actress Lupe Sino (Penélope Cruz) before he was gored to death in the bull ring. Sino's communist politics turned their affair into a scandal in the early s, especially after discovering her previous marriage to a PCE member.[3] The film begins with Manolete's last day in Linares.

    Today&#;s guest is screenwriter and director Menno Meyjes, best known for his collaboration with Steven Spielberg in the 80&#;s. Menno was born in the Netherlands but moved to the United States in to study at the San Francisco Art Institute. After writing a script for one of the best-known episodes of Spielberg&#;s AMAZING STORIES TV series – &#;The Mission&#;, starring a ung Kevin Costner and directed by Spielberg himself – Menno received an Academy Award nomination for his adaptation of Alice Walker&#;s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel THE COLOR PURPLE, as directed by Spielberg.     Menno Meyjes (born ) is a Dutch screenwriter, film director, and producer.[1] He is an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award nominee, and a Goya Award and Hugo Award winner.

    Meyjes was born in Bloemendaal, North Holland in He moved to the United States in and studied at San Francisco Art Institute, graduating with a master's degree in In , he founded the graphic design magazine Emigre, with fellow Dutchmen Marc Susan and Rudy VanderLans.[2]

    Meyjes first gained attention for his spec script The Children's Crusade, which was later produced in by Francis Ford Coppola as Lionheart.[2] His first produced screenplay was the film The Color Purple, directed by Steven Spielberg and based on Alice Walker's novel of the same name. He was nominated for an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
