Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie, Lady Mallowan, DBE (néeMiller; 15September – 12January ) was an English author known for her 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections, particularly those revolving around fictional detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. Dubbed the “Queen of Mystery,” Agatha Christie was an author and playwright known for books such as Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile, as well as characters like Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple. Christie published her first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, in and went on to become one of the most famous writers in history with 83 books to her name (and her pseudonym, Mary Westmacott). She also became a noted playwright with The Mousetrap, which is still running today on London’s West End. Christie died in January at age 85 and remains one of the top-selling authors ever, with her combined works selling more than 2 billion copies worldwide.

Im much more likely to find myself browsing the fiction sections at any bookshop or library, but when I was gifted Lucy Worsleys Agatha Christie biography for my birthday, I knew Id be packing it for my summer holiday reading.
Ive always enjoyed Worsleys historical documentaries, so an entire book by her focused on the life and work of the Queen of Crime… well, that was a real treat! I even found myself slowing right down while reading so I could hear Worsleys voice in my head, which only added to the enjoyment.
