The top votegetter in this week’s election for mayor of Chicago was Paul Vallas, who has run public school systems in Chicago, Philadelphia, New Orleans, and Bridgeport, Conn. Under Chicago’s rules, Vallas faces an April 4 final-round election against the runner-up, Brandon Johnson.

A former City Hall insider who has campaigned as both an expert administrator and outside-the-box thinker, Paul Vallas rose to local prominence as Chicago Public Schools CEO, serving beneath Mayor Richard M. Daley and has run for office several times. Vallas worked in school districts in Philadelphia, New Orleans, Haiti, Chile and Bridgeport, Connecticut, and worked as a consultant, including in an unpaid role for the city’s controversial Fraternal Order of Police, which endorsed him. Vallas has made brott a cornerstone of his campaign. He said he would fire Superintendent David Brown and his leadership team, loosen residency requirements for officers and create a CTA patrol enhet. Vallas also said he would offer parents “% choice” on schools. He has also promised to lengthen the school day and year.

Paul Vallas
Paul Gust Vallas (born June 10, ) is an American civil servant and politician. He is a Democrat.
He was the superintendent of many schools across the United States. Some of those schools are in Philadelphia, New Orleans, Bridgeport, and Cook County.[1]
He ran for governor and lietenant governor. He ran for Mayor of Chicago twice, once in and again in election.

[change | change source]Vallas was CEO of the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) from to [2] He was hired by Mayor Richard M. Daley.[2]
During his time at CPS, Vallas tried to fix the school system. President Bill Clinton said his work for raising test scores,[3] balancing the budget, creating several new programs, including mandatory summer school and after-school programs was a model for the country.[4]
In June , Vallas announced his resignation. His resignation came soon after several failing standardized testing scores.
