    Designer Liz Lange helped reinvent maternity fashion, bringing more style and versatility to clothing for pregnant women. But in addition to building her business and brand, Lange faced another major challenge at the height of her career: a cervical cancer diagnosis.

    Now a long-term survivor, she spoke about her experience and how regular Pap smears and early diagnosis helped her beat cancer.

    Can you tell us about your diagnosis?

    Getting diagnosed with cervical cancer at age 35 was a complete and utter chock. I considered myself very healthy. inom was busy, happy, energetic, and had two ung kids. inom was running a very successful business.

    Liz Lange is a fashion designer and entrepreneur. The founder of Liz Lange Maternity, which introduced form-fitting designer pregnancy wear in 1998, Lange has been described as a pioneer in the apparel industry.

    Lange grew up in New York City. She attended college at Brown University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature in 1988.

    From 1989 through 1993, Lange worked as a staff writer at Vogue, where she developed an interest in fashion. After leaving the magazine, she briefly interned for Stephen Di Geronimo's Geronimo label, and ultimately became a partner. While there, she began developing her idea for maternity clothes.

    In 1997, Lange borrowed $50,000 from family and founded Liz Lange Maternity in a 12x12 office equipped with only a phone. In 1998, after contacting friends she believed would be interested in the clothing, Lange opened an 800 square foot store in Manhattan’s midtown.     Fashion designer Liz Lange was at her Manhattan apartment, in 2001, when things began to unravel.

    “There was loud knocking, an unfriendly knocking, maybe the way it sounds when the police come to your door,” Lange told The Post. “There was a man who said he was there to take my car.”

    Repo men were not typically part of her rarified world. The founder of Liz Lange Maternity and now the CEO and head designer of the fashion brand Figue, she was the niece of Saul Steinberg. Six years earlier, the billionaire ranked among the city’s wealthiest.

    Her father, Bobby, was Saul’s brother. Together, the siblings engineered corporate takeovers and controlled well-known brands such as Day’s Inn and Reliance Insurance.
    “I told this person that there had to be a mistake,” Lange said of the repo man. “I sent bills to my father’s office and they got paid. I was shocked that there could be an outstanding b
