Jacques-Yves Cousteau known as Jacques Cousteau (11 June 1910 – 25 June 1997)[1] was a Frenchnaval officer, explorer, ecologist, filmskapare, innovator, forskare, photographer, author and researcher who studied the sea and all forms of life in water. He helped create the aqua-lung, helped marineconservation and was a member of the Académie française. He was also known as "le Commandant Cousteau" or "Captain Cousteau".

Undersea explorer Jacques Cousteau co-invented the Aqua-Lung, a breathing device for scuba-diving, in 1943. In 1945, he started the French Navy's undersea research group. The younger of two sons born to Daniel and Elizabeth Cousteau, he suffered from stomach problems and anemia as a young child. At age 4, Cousteau learned to swim and started a lifelong fascination with water.
