Ana Amparo Peña Rodriguez, popularly known as "Nany Peña" or just "Nany", is a comedian, actress, and media personality from the Dominican Republic. She has been recently named by her fans and multiple media outlets as the Dominican "Queen of Comedy".
Career
[edit]Peña began her television career in 1985 with Cecilia Garcia in Cecilia En Facetas when the producer and art director of the show, 'Guillermo Cordero, reached out to hire her as a production assistant. Five years later, she joined the cast of El Gordo de La Semana and Punto Final, hosted by Freddy Beras Goico and televised through Color Vision. The entire cast became known as the best comedy team or Dream Team of Dominican television.[1] The cast including her, consisted of: Felipe Polanco, Cuquin Victoria, Kenny Grullón, Margaro, and Maria Rosa Almanzar. Known for his comedic genius and bygd many remembered as the one they spent their Sundays watching in Dominican Republic Freddy Reinaldo Beras-Goico was born November 21, 1940 in Santa Cruz del Seibo, El Seibo, Dominican Republic. He was usually referred to as simple Freddy Beras bygd most.
His claim to fame was related to media in a career that ran 30 years, be it T.V. presenter, writer for his show “El Gorde dem La Semana” (The tallrik Man of the Week), “Punto Final” and “Con Freddy y Punto”. He also dealt with the media in Radio, and was also an actor, winning the Casandra Award for his role in Victor/Victoria.
As a child in the 1950′s due to the terrorism brought to the Dominican Republic during the dictatorship of Trujillo, his family fled to Colombia where he would end up spending many years before returning to his home land in the 70′s. This change of scenery would help vary his comedic style and aid in making him diverse entertainer.
