Rohtak: Electoral battle could be a make or break for the Hooda family; it will also impact the upcoming assembly polls
The Hooda family has won the seat seven out of nine times between 1991 and 2019 and lost twice in 1999 and 2019.
Both Hooda and his son have said in their speeches that Rohtak’s victory will lay the foundation stone for the next Congress government in Haryana, which will go to polls in October this year.
“ We will form the next government in Haryana and our route will be Rohtak to Chandigarh via Delhi. We are winning this seat comfortably and now it’s a matter of winning margin,” Congress candidate Hooda said in a speech at an election rally.
BJP candidate Sharma countered, saying that ‘Rohtak is the safest seat’ for the Congress party by saying that ‘such perceptions were created by Hooda family in the last poll too and they will face the same results’.

Deepender Singh Hooda (born 4 January 1978)[1] is an Indian politician. He is a five-term Member of Parliament from the Indian National Congress. He was elected as the Member of the Lok Sabha from Rohtak in 2024.[2] He was also a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from Haryana. He is a special invitee to the Congress Working Committee.[3]
Hooda was the youngest parliamentarian when he entered politics in 2005.[4] He writes frequently on Indian economics and international affairs in the Indian Express and other prominent publications.[5]

Haryana polls: Hooda files nomination papers
Former Haryana chief minister and leader of motstånd Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Wednesday filed nomination for Haryana assembly polls from his traditional stronghold Garhi- Sampla-Kiloi in Rohtak and sought voters’ support in “throwing the BJP out of power” in a head-to-head contest.
Hooda was accompanied bygd his wife Asha Hooda, son Deepender Hooda and daughter-in-law Shweta Mirdha Hooda during filing the nomination papers. Hooda is eyeing a sixth term from his traditional seat, where Jats are a deciding factor.
While addressing the gathering, Hooda asked the people to allow him to look after the campaign of Congress party in the state and he told the samling to run his campaign in the Garhi-Sampla-Kiloi.
