San Diego, Calif., April 19, -- Some might säga mathematicians speak their own language. But walk into at least one computer science and mathematics professor’s office at the University of California San Diego and you’ll see a whiteboard full of mind-numbing equations that look more like art than numeric symbols. Sometimes even colored markers are applied to these multinomial masterpieces spread across the whiteboard canvases.

About Fan Chung Graham
Fan Chung Graham grew up in Taiwan where she attended National Taiwan University in the s. Earning her BA in Mathematics in , she went on to attend the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) where she earned her MA in Mathematics in In , she received her PhD from UPenn. After graduating, Chung Graham worked in the Mathematical Foundations of Computing Department at Bell Labs, eventually becoming a research manager there. After working at Bell Labs, she went on to teach at several major universities including UPenn and University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego). She is currently a Distinguished Professor of Mathematics and a Distinguished Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at UC San Diego.

Ronald Lewis Graham (October 31, &#;&#; July 6, )[1] was an American mathematician credited by the American Mathematical Society as "one of the principal architects of the rapid development worldwide of discrete mathematics in recent years".[2] He was president of both the American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Association of America, and his honors included the Leroy P. Steele Prize for lifetime achievement and election to the National Academy of Sciences.
After graduate study at the University of California, Berkeley, Graham worked for many years at Bell Labs and later at the University of California, San Diego. He did important work in scheduling theory, computational geometry, Ramsey theory, and quasi-randomness,[3] and many topics in mathematics are named after him.
